Somalia has become the new Technical representative on IATI’s Governing Board, following a by-election called last month. The election for the Technical Seat followed the incumbent representative, Pelle Aardema sadly stepping down due to unforeseen personal circumstances.
We welcome Mr. Mohamed Gele, Ministry of Planning, Investment & Economic Development (MoPIED), Government of Somalia to the Governing Board. Mohamed Gele was elected unopposed, following the election nomination period that closed on 18 October 2023.
“I put myself forward to be on the Governing Board because I believe that fragile and conflict-affected states (FCS) like Somalia can benefit greatly from engaging with IATI.

As a Board member, I will not only be a voice for FCS, but also promote IATI data use awareness in my own country of Somalia. I am passionate about improving aid transparency and accountability, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the world to advance the IATI agenda.”
