Organisation information

Each publisher should have one organisation file. Use this to describe your organisation and the budgets you have for providing or spending funds, broken down by recipient organisations, regions and countries. And use it to publish forward-looking budgets.

You can also use your organisation file to link to relevant documents – these could be your annual accounts, annual reports, strategy documents or other information you publish about your organisation.

IATI provides XML ‘elements’ for each piece of information you can include. You can update your information any time and should do so at least annually. The more information you give, the richer you make the picture of your organisation.

Ideally you should provide information for all the elements listed here. But if you’re new to IATI data publishing, we recommend that you start by adding just the mandatory and recommended details:

Identification

• Organisation Identifier (mandatory)
• Name (mandatory)
• Reporting org (mandatory)

Budget

• Total budget (recommended)
• Recipient org budget
• Recipient country budget
• Recipient region budget

Expenditure

• Total expenditure (recommended)

Documents

• Document link (recommended)

If you receive funding from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office or the Dutch or Belgian governments you may have extra reporting requirements. For information on these see Donors' reporting requirements.

Building your own system?

The following requirements are built into most publishing systems. Make to sure to include them if building your own:

• Organisation files must be well-formed XML
• Organisation files must validate against the relevant version of the IATI organisation schema, test this using the IATI Validator
• Including the @generated-datetime attribute is highly recommended
