Becoming a member
IATI membership lets you publicly signal your commitment to transparency, attend IATI events and have a say in the future of the initiative.
Why become an IATI member?
IATI membership lets you govern and fund our initiative. By becoming a member, you can support the publication and use of good quality IATI data to achieve sustainable development.
Becoming a member vs. data publisher
Becoming a member of IATI is optional and is not necessary to publish IATI data. Any organisation can register for free to be a publisher - see our how to publish data page for more information.
Benefits
Benefits to your organisation or government of becoming a member include:
- Showing your commitment to transparency to the international development and humanitarian communities. This includes key stakeholders such as funders, taxpayers, civil society organisations and politicians.
- Learning from and sharing best practice with our growing membership of more than 100 donor and developing country governments, multilateral institutions, philanthropic foundations, civil society and private sector organisations.
- Receiving priority support from the IATI Secretariat on publishing your IATI data.
- Having the final say on changes to the IATI Standard, ensuring its rules and guidance meet your data needs.
- Attending IATI member events across the globe, including our annual members’ assembly meeting.

Fund essential work
IATI members entirely fund our work. By joining, you are helping to ensure IATI can continue our vital work, including:
- IATI support from the Secretariat. This includes responding to hundreds of requests each month for help to publish and access IATI data.
- Improvements to the IATI Standard to ensure its rules and guidance meet the changing data needs of the development and humanitarian sector.
- Maintenance of IATI’s technical systems and tools, which are critical to the publication and use of the data.
- Communications and engagement activities to spread awareness and secure political commitments to transparency amongst governments and major international bodies.
