Join State of the Data 2026: Sub-national Location Consultation Event to discuss how and why sub-national geography is important to aid transparency, coordination and data use. We will open the meeting up for everyone to share their own experiences.

What does this mean for IATI Community?

For the first edition of IATI's State of Data series in 2026, the IATI Secretariat plans to share the analysis on the location element of the IATI Standard.

The IATI Standard enables data to be publsished on the sub-national geography of development and humanitarian activties. Any activity published can have one or many “locations”, which could provide a wide range of details, including:

• an administrative area (e.g. a country, district or region)
• a named place (e.g. a village or town)
• an exact location (e.g. a building or plot of land).

To date, 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝟱𝟬𝟬 organisations have published 𝟲𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬+ 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 for approx. 𝟮𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 development and humanitarian 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.

Why does this event matter?

Prior to the release of an analysis of the IATI location data, join this event to discuss how and why sub-national location data is used more widely. We hope to hear from some dedicated use cases and examples, to stimulate discussion and ideas.

We are interested in hearing about how you and your organisation use sub-national location data. Participants are encouraged to share experiences from both IATI and non-IATI contexts.

Following this, we can then share analysis of the IATI location element in context, to better help us shape discussions and potential actions.
